Here’s A Truly Sweet PR Campaign That Will Blow Your Minds

Hey Lovelies,

I’m sure all of you are aware that Global Warming is upon us and that it’s up to us to put an end to it. But, I’m pretty sure that not all of you may be aware that M&M’s is also playing a role in the fight to end Global Warming.

Yes that’s right, M&M’s those colourful candy-coated chocolates!

In September this year, M&M’s released a PR Campaign called ‘Winds of Change’ which advocates the power of wind energy and spreads the message of renewable energy.
The campaign was launched in conjunction with its parent company, Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. (‘Mars’)’s $1 billion pledge to fight climate change and their wider scheme, ‘Sustainable In A Generation Plan’.

Now, I bet all of you are wondering: Why would M&M’s be concerned with the Wind?
Well, one of the adverse effects that global warming contributes to is the destruction of cocoa crops worldwide. This means that it the supply of chocolate is declining which is especially sad because who would want to live in a world without chocolate?

Therefore, M&M’s is on a mission to restore higher production of M&M’s via environmentally-friendly means – wind power. Currently, Mars has partnered with wind farms across the globe to alleviate the situation. This move has helped to cut their own greenhouse gas emissions by 25% with the use of wind energy and renewable energy. In addition to this, it is truly notable that “A wind turbine spinning for one second produces the energy equivalent to what's needed to make eight packs of M&M'S,” according to Berta De Pablos-Barbier, President of Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. which goes to prove how these efforts have significantly impacted the production of M&M’s in a positive way.

How does the process work?
It can be hard to imagine as we are the consumers, but here’s a little infographic showcasing how the manufacturing and operating processes are done with wind energy to produce M&M’s:

So, there you have it! The next time you pop an M&M into your mouth, remember folks that it took plenty of sustainable efforts to create that M&M which is pretty rad!

Hopefully, we’ll continue seeing more companies rethink their production methods in the near future that will enable a greener world. :-)

Your homegirl, Margaux
