Rethink Your Food Scraps

Approximately 4.5M tonnes of food enters landfill each year producing acids that poison the groundwater and release greenhouse gases. About 3% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions come from organic waste materials (your food scraps) that are rotting without air in landfill. This statistic is the same as Australia’s aviation industry.

We encourage you to ‘Rethink’ your food scraps by recycling them in a compose bin or worm farm

Sydney council areas encourage community members to consider alternative ways of depositing food scrapes by running free workshops to educate people about ecological practices such as composting and worm farms.
